? SOCIALE MEDIER
Eight months after Facebook started testing subscription sales within news publishers’ Instant Articles pages, it said those tests with a dozen publishers have yielded “promising” preliminary results.
Facebook Pages now include an ‘Info & Ads’ section listing all ads a Page has run across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and Facebook’s partner networks.

In May, the Condé Nast-owned fashion glossy attracted a record 13.6 million unique visitors, according to comScore, boosted by coverage of the Met Gala and the royal wedding. But whereas Facebook drove traffic around such events in years past, the traffic this year came from Google, email and Instagram.

# Instagram har rundet 1.000.000.000 brugere
Let’s put that figure into perspective — Instagram had 400 million monthly active users in September 2015, 500 million in June 2016, 600 million in December 2016, 700 million in April 2017, and 800 million in September 2017 (the last number Facebook shared). In other words, Instagram has been adding some 200 million users every year, at a rate that has accelerated.

The launch of Instagram’s IGTV has brought out the early adopter marketers. Companies like Chipotle, Nike, Netflix, Warby Parker, Trader Joe’s, Everlane and Gucci are testing IGTV with content ranging from silly one-offs to interviews with influencers.

Are you ready for some scary numbers? After months of Mark Zuckerberg talking about how “Protecting our community is more important than maximizing our profits,” Facebook is preparing to turn that commitment into a Time Well Spent product.
# Twitter køber platform for anti-chikane
To prevent spam accounts, Twitter is requiring new users to verify an email address or a phone number. While some marketers, including Unilever CMO Keith Weed, welcomed it, others called the process long overdue and still not enough.
# Snapchat prøver at dele ud af annoncepengene
As part of Snapchat’s ongoing charm offensive with creators, the app said it would start sharing ad revenue with them. The program was announced June 21 as part of Snap’s keynote at VidCon.

___
Få hovedpunkterne i aftalen her.
___
Nyt medieforlig fjerner knap 400 millioner fra medieområdet
___

To help regional media use public data to generate more local stories, the BBC has created Shared Data Unit, a project aimed at sharing public data with local newsrooms and providing data journalism training.
The broadcaster shares datasets from public authorities with over 700 regional media outlets, including hyperlocal and local newspapers and local televisions.
The new iOS and Android app, available today, will eventually replace iPlayer Radio. At its core, the service is still a hybrid radio and podcast player. The broadcaster, however, is changing the way it surfaces content to better match the experience found on major streaming services such as Spotify.
“True, when you’ve spent two years working on something and you’ve even been rehoused because the Russian intelligence agencies are after you, it can be a bit disheartening when ‘Am I a toilet brush?’ is also trending,” said Holmes.
“But it’s an ecosystem,” explained Warren. “People go from animal videos to us – you come for the cats, but you get some fantastic investigative journalism.”
# MIT Technology Review elsker print
MIT Tech Review recently rebranded its print edition from just a collection of articles, into a product that doesn’t simply republish content that was posted online a month later, but has its own attitude and way of telling stories.
# Tim Cook: Derfor har Apple News brug for mennesker
“News was kind of going a little crazy,” said Cook on Monday night at the Fortune CEO Initiative conference in San Francisco, explaining Apple’s latest attempt to curb polarization. Apple’s solution, unveiled earlier in the day, was a new, curated tab for coverage of the 2018 midterm elections. The stories will be picked by human editors, and will offer coverage from a variety of viewpoints, from Vox to Fox News.
The consequences are serious and wide-ranging. Fake news and misinformation are pervasive. Young kids are being subjected to algorithmically generated, algorithmically optimized pernicious content. Perhaps the least concerning implication is that there is systemic bias in our information feeds, that we operate in and are informed by tiny echo chambers. It’s a grotesque irony that our experiences of the world wide web today are actually pretty local, despite warnings from the likes of Eli Pariser back in 2011.

“The best predictor of membership loyalty is whether an organization has been talking to their audiences already about their need to raise money. The other predictor is how many subscribers you have on your list, and how engaged those subscribers on your list are.”
# Adblocking på mobilen vokser – langsomt
Research from AudienceProject, a company that helps publishers understand online audiences, found that 8 percent of mobile sessions detected people using an ad blocker in the U.K., up from 2 percent in 2016. In the U.S., 5 percent of sessions were blocked, up from 2 percent in 2016. In Germany, which has ranked high in desktop ad-blocking use, 13 percent of sessions on mobile were blocked. (AudienceProject had no comparable figures for German.)
Do you use an adblocker? Would you pay the local news organization that you subscribe to an extra dollar or two a month to be able to use their site with an ad-blocker?

The media owner has created a new consultancy unit, called CNN Reach, based out of its London and Singapore offices. The goal: Help clients plan and create campaign content; advise on and execute distribution and media buying both on and off its own platforms; and offer first-, second- and third-party audience targeting across CNN and its parent company Turner’s portfolio.
# WordPress-ejere køber abonnementsfirma
Publishers are increasingly turning to digital subscriptions in an ultracompetitive digital ad market dominated by Facebook and Google.
That is one reason why Automattic, the owner of the popular publishing platform sold by WordPress.com, has acquired the technology and publishing company Atavist in a bid to expand the suite of subscription and membership tools it offers to its customers.
# Programmatic er på vej tilbage efter GDPR
Programmatic ad spending has started to recover a month after the arrival of the General Data Protection Regulation caused it to nosedive. Advertisers’ panic toward the EU privacy law has turned to pragmatism.
In some campaigns, more than 90 percent of the clicks are generated by robot traffic.
That’s according to the first “Robot Traffic Report” (free, no registration) from New York City-based financial native ad platform Dianomi. The data comes from hundreds of publishers around the world on the company’s ad platform, over a period of six years.
Online retail and voice assistants are fast-growing areas for the advertiser’s ads, said Luis Navarrete Gómez, head of global search marketing at Lego. Amazon dominates both areas, which has resulted in the online seller taking a larger slice of Lego’s paid search budget. Gómez said that growth is admittedly from a low base, but is showing no signs of slowing down, particularly now that Lego has an established Amazon store and a two-month-old Alexa skill for the Amazon Echo.
? MEDIER /UDVIKLING
Her får du et kig på nogle af ugens historier indenfor den digitale udvikling og teknologi, der enten direkte eller indirekte kan have betydning for medier/udgivere.
# Mobil fylder mere i brugerrejsen – hav en strategi for det
Every day, consumers use their smartphones to hunt for insights before making their next move. Yes, businesses are adapting by introducing mobile sites and apps that work on the small screen. But to succeed on mobile takes much more than adapting desktop experiences to the small screen. In fact, without a full understanding of mobile user experience (UX), mobile sites can do more harm than good.
Today, when a visitor to a website clicks a link, there is a slight delay before a server responds, resulting in milliseconds to seconds of nothing apparently happening. It’s an issue that causes visitors to click away from an article or site, and one reason behind the adoption of ad blockers, according to a study by the Interactive Advertising Bureau. But 5G will effectively eliminate that delay, said Jeremy Lockhorn, vp of experience strategy for mobile and emerging technology at agency SapientRazorfish, resulting in faster ad-load times and happier users. The FCC states that 5G is 1,000 times faster than 4G with 100 times less latency. Scott Singer, managing director at consultancy DDG, said he wouldn’t be surprised if the use of ad blockers begins to diminish because of webpages loading at quicker speeds.
# Google genbesøger telefon-chatbot
Right away, many in the tech community cited two big problems. First, the people on the receiving end of the call were unaware that the voice speaking into the phone was a machine, meaning Duplex was essentially fooling unsuspecting humans. Second, the bot in the demo never indicated it was recording the phone call, raising the eyebrows of privacy advocates and prompting follow-up questions from journalists (including writers at WIRED).
# Machine Learning: Fra Zero til Hero
You don’t need to come up with advanced algorithms anymore. You just have to teach a computer to come up with its own advanced algorithm.
