⚡ Google AMP er ikke kun til mobil
AMP is designed to be mobile friendly, and with slow hardware and high latency connections, the boost you get with AMP on smartphones is going to be felt a lot stronger than on desktops. But AMP isn’t mobile only — it’s mobile first.
In fact, if you can, I discourage you from going mobile-only with AMP.

? Derfor blokerer Opera for annoncer

? Hvem vil have mere video?
Håbet er bl.a. at kunne formidle musikfestivalens formål bedre.

? Facebook foretrækker dine venner fremfor sider
Facebook is also making a feed ranking change today that literally puts its primary value that “Friends and family come first” into practice. The News Feed will now show posts from friends higher up in the feed than posts from Pages like news outlets. Pages should expect a decline in reach and referral traffic, especially if they rely on clicks directly to their posts rather than re-shares by their followers.

“I call it a sea of dudes,” said Margaret Mitchell, a researcher at Microsoft. Mitchell works on computer vision and language problems, and is a founding member—and only female researcher—of Microsoft’s “cognition” group. She estimates she’s worked with around 10 or so women over the past five years, and hundreds of men. “I do absolutely believe that gender has an effect on the types of questions that we ask,” she said. “You’re putting yourself in a position of myopia.”

At Facebook, moving into management is not a promotion.
[…]
In hiring, feedback for each interviewee has to be written and logged by all interviewers, and everyone on the recruiting and interview loop teams is able to see that feedback. There’s just one caveat: Interviewers can’t see others’ feedback until they’ve submitted their own. That stops the unintended “I love this person” pressure that happens when someone else on the team says he or she likes a candidate before everyone else has submitted their feedback. This is done to ensure feedback submitted is the honest opinion of the interviewer and not the feedback the interviewer thinks his or her boss wants to hear.

Crises have a way of fixing this problem. When Tata took over the ailing Jaguar Land Rover company from Ford, it had a simple message for the company’s workers: forget about quarterly results, make great cars. Ford had been hidebound by delivering quarterly results, so Tata cut the company loose and pushed it out into the uncomplicated waters of the medium term.
The very lack of a recovery period is dramatically holding back our collective ability to be resilient and successful. Research has found that there is a direct correlation between lack of recovery and increased incidence of health and safety problems. And lack of recovery — whether by disrupting sleep with thoughts of work or having continuous cognitive arousal by watching our phones — is costing our companies $62 billion a year (that’s billion, not million) in lost productivity.

[…] we undervalue the achievement and overvalue the importance of the interruption. For example, Joe, a client in one of our trainings, recently relayed a story about a time when he closed his email so that he could finish an important project, and as a result didn’t respond immediately to an email from his boss about a client issue. When we asked what happened, Joe said that his boss got the information from a coworker. We asked if he got in trouble with his boss (he didn’t), if he finished his important project (he did), and if the project was more important to the big picture than answering that email immediately (it was.) But he believed that he had been “beaten out” by his coworker, as if there were some ongoing competition for who answers emails the fastest, or as he saw it, “who was the most responsive.”
✏ Design / UX
? Lean UX: Tag dine følelser ud af design-processen
One of the first things that designers need to do is to remove themselves emotionally from the design process as much as humanly possible. Of course, intuition, opinions and experience will come into play, but if they can take themselves out of it, look at things a little bit more objectively and focus on the goals that were given to them by the users or their stakeholders and say okay, what we need to do is look at producing real, measurable results and design a creative process that actually provides value to people.

? God UX: User Journey Maps

? Sådan arbejder Instagram med effektivitet
Instagram, like all software, is limited by physical constraints like servers and datacenter power. With these constraints in mind, there are two main goals we want to achieve with our efficiency program:
- Instagram should be able to serve traffic normally with continuous code rollouts in the case of lost capacity in one data center region, due to natural disaster, regional network issues, etc.
- Instagram should be able to freely roll out new products and features without being blocked by capacity.
To meet these goals, we realized we needed to persistently monitor our system and battle regression.

? Er programmering forældet?
Coding allows for typos. More than that, it allows for infinite “creativity”, also known as code smells. Most code is pretty rank. Engineers spend countless hours dealing with syntax, typos, indentation, linting, errors, arguing over style and best practices, and making shortcuts to try to coax some of the code to type itself. It’s absurd. And it’s a waste of time.
