More often than not, the idea that the website’s speed is important fails to permeate throughout the organisation. There may be one or two dedicated web performance evangelists, keeping up to date with all the latest trends and attending web performance events. But these tend to be isolated, embedded within technical teams. When it comes to bringing the case for web performance to the rest of the business, they meet with mixed success. […]
It’s partly this that drove one of our professional services consultants, Colin Marshall, to build the Performance Maturity Model.

? Den første beta af iOS 10 er klar
It’s here. The first public beta of iOS 10 is now available to download. You can download it, even your neighbor can download it. And the good news is that you won’t have to pay $99 a year for a developer account. But remember, this is a beta.

? Laver Google bedre apps til iOS end Android?
Here’s a thing I didn’t really expect to write: I’m finding that I enjoy Google’s apps more on iOS than I do on Android. Or more specifically: I think that there’s more interesting innovation coming out of Google’s iOS app teams than on Android — at least for the moment.

My take is that the specific aspects [of technologies] are not predictable, but the general direction is inevitable. I want people to embrace the general direction while deciding and choosing the specifics. The specifics matter to us a lot. And we have a lot of choice about that. Telephones were inevitable, but the iPhone was not. The internet was inevitable, but Twitter was not. It’s only by embracing the large scale trend that we can steer the general direction.

? Lad ikke dine fejltagelser gå til spilde
We all know that our gotcha culture demands perfection. We all know too that mistakes are inevitable even as risk-taking is necessary. The solution is not to tolerate mistakes or avoid risk. The solution is to confirm less and challenge more. That means we need more than opportunities to make cheap mistakes; we need to understand why we made the mistakes.

Through my own experience and in my work coaching clients on time management, I’ve seen that there often is a strong correlation between poor time management, working longer hours, and feeling stressed.
[…]
You can revise the way you work so that you gradually cut down on your hours. It’s not easy at first, and it may take a few months to reach your goal. But by managing your time differently, you can work more effectively in less time, discover a renewed passion for your job, and improve your health — especially in terms of sleep and exercise, better relationships, and overall peace of mind.
✏ Design / UX
? Sådan redesignede Viacom deres player
The new process/structure that was put in place and remains in place consists of designers working closely with the user research team and also relying more on feedback from our brands, they were the first in questioning the position of controls in the middle of the video for example. This allows us to iterate on our designs more quickly and reliably, as we are able to answer key questions by testing our assumptions/hypothesis with real users.

“Let’s say you sit down at a restaurant, you order your food, and it comes out one minute later. Is that a good thing?” asks Braden Kowitz, design partner at Google Ventures (which has more than 250 portfolio companies including Uber, Slack, and Nest). “You start to wonder, ‘What’s going on here? Is something wrong in the kitchen?’”
In terms of web design, white space usually refers to the areas with no text or imagery. We can think of it as ‘visual silence’. In order for our design to function properly, we need to use white space in good rhythm with our used space
? Tilpasning vs. personalisering
Customization gives control to the user and personalization gives control to the site. Both can enhance users’ experience, but only when carefully implemented.

? Eksempel på et nyt chat-UI
When I message my friends, I frequently find myself thinking it would have been neat if there existed a certain affordance or cue in a certain part of the app. I started thinking about how it would lead to an overall better experience if a chat app possessed all these features. This prompted me to undertake a detailed study of the current and past chat interfaces leading to a detailed document.

♿ Design til handicappede
“I believe that losing my hearing was one of the greatest gifts I’ve ever received,” says Elise Roy. As a disability rights lawyer and design thinker, she knows that being Deaf gives her a unique way of experiencing and reframing the world — a perspective that could solve some of our largest problems. As she says: “When we design for disability first, you often stumble upon solutions that are better than those when we design for the norm.”

? Der er brug for flere kvinder i design
I think it’s particularly important to put women on technology projects, because the subtle but significant differences in how women approach tech problems and solutions really matter. It’s not just that women have a slightly different sensibility, but especially when women are the target market it’s essential to have that voice and life experience in the mix.

? Front end-udviklere skal være ‘opmærksomme’
In a general sense, the front end developer is positioned in the middle of lots of other jobs. Everybody involved in a web team ends up talking with the front end developers. That makes sense. The front end developers create the actual thing people interact with. Everything comes together with the front end developer. Perhaps that’s why it’s such a fun job!
Because the front end developer is this central hub position and dealing with lots of different people doing lots of different jobs, the job can be done better if they are aware. Aware of everything else that makes a website tick.

? Facebooks maskinrum for kunstig intelligens
In the town of Prineville, home to roughly 9,000 people, Facebook stores the data of hundreds of millions more. Rows and rows of computers stand inside four giant buildings totaling nearly 800,000 square feet, precisely aligned to let in the dry and generally cool summer winds that blow in from the northwest. The aisles of stacked servers with blinking blue and green lights make a dull roar as they process logins, likes, and LOLs.
