? Los Angeles Times bygger eget CMS
“We found that having our engineers in the newsroom just getting constant feedback from people around them was invaluable. It was a good way to get this project completed, and we’re definitely looking to make changes to product development across the whole company, because it was so successful here,” Gerst said. “We’re going to be doing that a lot: trying out something in one market, and if we see a lot of success, if it seems like it’s working for us, we’d move that onto other markets.”

“Facebook is ad-supported. Ads are a part of the Facebook experience; they’re not a tack on,” said Andrew “Boz” Bosworth, vice president of Facebook’s ads and business platform.

⚡ Google fremhæver AMP-sider i søgeresultaterne
Wherever there’s an AMP page, Google will display it in the result (with an accompanying AMP lightning bolt). The boost does not come with any changes to the search rankings, and there are no plans to add a specific AMP signal into the Google search algorithm, Richard Gingras, Google’s head of news and social products, said. (Though page speed, which AMP targets, is already a small signal.)

Sky is bullish on virtual reality. While many media companies are exploring VR to create new viewing experiences, few of them are going all-in. But Sky’s message is clear: It wants to be a leader in the space, not a follower.

? The Washington Post eksperimenterer med automatik under OL
The Washington Post will leverage artificial intelligence technology to report key information from the 2016 Rio Olympics, including results of medal events. “Heliograf,” which was developed in-house, automatically generates short multi-sentence updates for readers. These updates will appear in The Post’s live blog, on Twitter at @WPOlympicsbot, and are accessible via The Post’s Olympics skill on Alexa-enabled devices and The Post’s bot for Messenger.

? Facebook vs. clickbait-overskrifter

8️⃣ The Economist udvidede sociale medier-teamet, her er erfaringerne
The decline in print advertising — accelerated by the rapid rise of digital media — has prompted us to focus more on building a sustainable subscriptions-based business. We have long believed in the paywall model; that readers should pay for well-researched journalism they can’t get elsewhere. To expand our subscriber base, we need to find new subscribers, which is why we invested in a social-media team.

What makes Yik Yak stand out from other chat apps is its unique combination of locality and relative anonymity. Messages are displayed to users based on their location, and while people on the app can register a username and build a profile, they can also post anonymously.

⌚ Har smart-ure allerede toppet?
According to new numbers posted by IDC, smartwatch shipments are down for the second quarter of this year, marking the first drop of its kind. And it’s not insignificant falloff – moving from 5.1 million a year ago to 3.5 million this quarter. That’s a 32-percent decline.

? Indiske journalister tager Snapchat til sig
It’s about experimenting with every platform and not taking them at face value. If you take Snapchat at face value, it’s for teenagers sharing nudies. You’ve got to look beyond that, you’ve got to look at how you can apply that technology for journalistic storytelling.

Native ads, not banners, have emerged as the standard digital ad format. In 2016 more than half of all display revenue will come from native formats, and in five years, native is projected to make up three quarters of the display market.

Det er budskabet i Harvard Business Review-artiklen ‘It’s the Company’s Job to Help Employees Learn’. Kort fortalt:
As academic reviews have pointed out, people’s employability – their ability to gain and maintain a desired job – no longer depends on what they already know, but on what they are likely to learn.
En anden HBR-artikel siger, at ‘If You’re Not Outside Your Comfort Zone, You Won’t Learn Anything’:
You may stumble, but that’s OK. In fact, it’s the only way you’ll learn, especially if you can appreciate that missteps are an inevitable — and in fact essential — part of the learning process. In the end, even though we might feel powerless in situations outside our comfort zone, we have more power than we think.

Men læs lige ‘Research: Keeping Work and Life Separate Is More Trouble than It’s Worth’ [Harvard Business Review]:
It’s true that for some time, the best advice on work-life balance was to create stiffer boundaries between both. But new research suggests that maintaining strict distinctions between work roles and home roles might actually be what is causing our feelings of stress to set in. Instead of leaving work at the office and home at the door, integrating both might be a better strategy for enhancements in well-being and performance.
I opsamlingen fra uge 27 havde vi fat i ‘Work/Life balance is bullshit’, der er skrevet af Tobias van Schneider, som på det tidspunkt arbejdede hos Spotify:
But work and life are not separate. They are the same, there is only one thing, it’s called LIFE. Work is part of my life, it’s not competing against it.

? Typografien i ‘Stranger Things’
The Stranger Things title sequence is pure, unadulterated typographic porn. With television shows opting for more elaborate title sequences (think GOT and True Detective), the opening of Stranger Things is refreshingly simple. It trims the fat and shows only what is necessary to set the mood. More importantly, it proves a lesson I’ve learned time and time again as a designer: You can do a lot with type.
