? SOCIALE MEDIER
? Facebook tillader igen andre at kopiere features
Facebook will now freely allow developers to build competitors to its features upon its own platform. Today Facebook announced it will drop Platform Policy section 4.1, which stipulates “Add something unique to the community. Don’t replicate core functionality that Facebook already provides.”
? Beslaglagte Facebook-dokumenter offentliggjort

Wired-journalisten Virginia Heffernan har talt med Sheryl Sandberg og skriver, at “It dawned on me that Sandberg was human […] and that no one human, even Sandberg, could discipline the galactic, epochal spiritual wildfire that Mark Zuckerberg had inflicted on the Internet.”
? Kan Facebook hæve kvaliteten af kommentarer?
To address this, earlier this year, Facebook started testing a new up and downvote option for comments, which was designed to give users a way to provide immediate, easy feedback on comment quality, in order to keep on-platform conversations more civil and inviting.
? Facebook ruller gruppe-Stories ud
Late last year, Facebook began testing collaborative Stories for Groups and Events, enabling members and attendees to contribute, and providing another way to connect with like-minded users. Now, Facebook’s rolling out its Group Stories option in all regions, adding another element to its growing push on Stories use.
Starting on December 10, you may see a personalized Year in Review video in your News Feed. This video aims to show special moments from 2018 that you’ve shared or been tagged in, and compiles them in a short video that can be edited and shared. See your video at facebook.com/memories.
? Sådan kan medier bruge Instagrams nye Stories-funktion
I sidste uges Ugerevy kunne du læse, at Instagram har gjort det muligt at dele sine Stories med udvalgte personer. Det kan medier også bruge.

↔️ Instagram tester vandret feed
The option seems to further align with the growing popularity of the Stories layout – there’s not a lot to go on at this stage, but the side-swiping process could be optional, enabling users to either stick with what they know and love, or move to an Instagram fully aligned with the horizontal option.
? Her er årest mest populære YouTube-videoer
It’s time once againfor YouTube Rewind, which spotlights the year’s top trending videos and music videos on YouTube, based on views, shares, comments, likes, and more. I like it because it reflects the zeitgeist and gives us insight into who we are.
? …og de mest populære tweets
Twitter has this week shared its annual round-upof the most tweeted about topics, politicians, celebrities and more, providing a range of insights into the key trends of the year, and what’s of most interest to Twitter users.
Despite not funneling more money into Twitter, media buyers say the site’s ad platform is their favorite to use due to its simplicity and reliability.
? Google lukker messaging-klienten Allo
The messaging app was only launched in September 2016, but it was pretty much flawed from the word go, with limited usage. Google was, once again, painfully late to the messaging game.
In this post, I’ll go through the expected social media trends of 2019. Some of them are already here, and growing slowly, but aren’t at full hype just yet. Some are big and booming, and expected to get even bigger in 2019.
? MEDIER /TENDENSER
Flere nichemedier. Som i mange flere nichemedier. Også fra de store mediehuse. #dkmedier2018
— Jakob Nielsen (@jakobnielsen) December 19, 2017
Nichekrig i 2019?
— Jan Birkemose (@JanBirkemose) December 6, 2018
? Nichemedier tjener penge på markeds-research
Niche publishers all claim they know their audiences inside and out, and they are building out new ways to trade on that knowledge.

? Google tester Google News på lyd
Google is hoping to address some of these concerns with a new experiment, announced today, that will deliver more personalized audio news feeds through Google Assistant. “We are combining Google News with the interactivity and voice experience of Google Assistant,”
…og der er selvfølgelig tænkt personalisering ind:
“Imagine if you ask for news and get a quick update on the stories of the moment, then you get stories that speak to your personal preferences and interests. It’s like your radio station”
So. It’s been almost 12 full months. Did Apple’s new analytics fundamentally change anythingfor publishers and the podcast business? After checking in with over a dozen sources throughout various corners of the podcast ecosystem, there seems to be a general consensus around the answer: No, not really. But it has brought some positives.
?️ Få af os lever i filterbobler
“Media choice has become more of a vehicle of political self-expression than it once was,” Grossmann writes. “Partisans therefore tend to overestimate their use of partisan outlets, while most citizens tune out political news as best they can.”
? Sådan gentænkte The New York Times deres morgen-brief
Det starter hos brugeren, selvfølgelig:
Get to know the reader: We followed the morning routine of 30 for a week, which helped us understand their reading behaviors. We found that many readers fall into one of two distinct groups: those who read every word, top to bottom, and those who skip and scan for things that interest them. Depending on the day, readers might move between these two modes based on how much time they have.
? Hør om Quartz’ arbejde med bots
In this week’s podcast, we speak to to Emily Withrow, director of the Bot Studio at Quartz. She tells us how the publisher is experimenting with bots, offering their audiences a possibility to interact with the information they receive instead of simply reading it.
? Mindeord over millennial-mediet Mic
Lad os håbe at strategien dræbte succesmedie
↓
En til om Mic:
The demise of digital publishers like Mic has become a cautionary tale for media that relied too heavily on Facebook, changed strategy too many times, and tried to be everything to everyone. For publishers, however, part of the blame can be placed on downward pressure from ad agencies, who, driven by their own shrinking fees and a need to prove their worth, have squeezed publisher margins. But agency buyers say it takes two sides to make a deal — and they’re under their own pressures, which means they’re looking for cheaper rates on undifferentiated, commoditized inventory.
? MEDIER /BUSINESS
? Nyt studie om betaling for indhold
While the paywall was not the most common trigger to start paying for digital news, the ability to read an unlimited number of digital stories was the most appreciated benefit of a digital subscription.
? Kan du fjerne det indhold, ingen læser?
The UK’s Times Newspapers, meanwhile, decided to get rid of content that simply duplicated what was already available from the BBC, which 98 percent of Times readers already use on a weekly basis. “We effectively retired from breaking news,” said Times managing editor Chris Duncan. “Our readers didn’t really value it. So why compete on something our customers didn’t value?”

This updated ads.text lets app developers — of mobile apps as well as Over-the-Top (OTT) video apps — verify their properties’ ad inventory, just as web site publishers can.
? Reuters tjener penge på Twitter-videoer
According to Dan Colarusso, executive editor at Reuters TV and Reuters.com, Twitter now brings in “significant revenue,” in line with what his company gets from Google AMP. “In terms of one product on one platform, Twitter is contributing the most,” said Colarusso, but he was unable to share specific revenue details in time for publishing.
? MEDIER /UDVIKLING
Her får du et kig på nogle af ugens historier indenfor den digitale udvikling og teknologi, der enten direkte eller indirekte kan have betydning for medier/udgivere.
Echo devices have steadily taken over the world, with Amazon selling a reported 50 million Alexa-powered speakers as of this summer. Apple Music, meanwhile, has at least 50 million subscribers. Anyone who lives inside the intersection of that Venn diagram has been needlessly hamstrung by the two not playing nice. Sure, they could get Apple Music to play by connecting their iPhone to their Echo by Bluetooth, but that negates the whole purpose of owning a speaker you can shout at.
? 5G: Apple vs. Samsung
Verizon and Samsung have announced plans to release a 5G smartphone in the first half of 2019, representing what will be one of the most high-profile US debuts for the new mobile networking standard. There aren’t any details yet on the device itself, but Bloomberg previously reportedthat the two companies were in talks to bring a 5G version of the upcoming Galaxy S10 to the US.

? Rygte: Microsoft vil lukke Edge-browseren
“By adopting Chromium, Microsoft hands over control of even more of online life to Google”, kan du læse i et indlæg på den officielle Mozilla-blog.

Wired har en interessant vinkel på historien:
Chrome dominates the desktop browser space, notching over 60 percent market share over the last year or more. But in November of this year—as in, about a week ago—second place went to Internet Explorer, at a hair over 11 percent. But that’s just desktop, you say. Fair enough! But even when you combine mobile, tablet, and desktop traffic, at least one metric slots IE in third place, accounting for about 10 percent of users. Edge? It’s at 4.5 percent on a good day.
? Ny Google Chrome har udvidet adblocker
With Chrome 71, Google is cracking down on “abusive experiences”— buttons designed to intentionally mislead and trick users into taking action on the web — by having the browser’s ad blocker cut off revenue for sites that create these abusive experiences.
? Sådan kan Apples smarthøjttaler høre dig igennem støjen
Apple’s HomePod hasn’t won much praise for the capabilities of its integrated digital assistant Siri, but it does have one undeniably impressive feature: the ability to accurately hear a user’s commands from across the room, despite interference from loud music, conversations, or television audio. As the company’s Machine Learning Journal explains today, HomePod is leveraging AI to constantly monitor an array of six microphones, processing their differential inputs using knowledge gained from deep learning models.

? Apple udnævner ‘Best of 2018’
Apple today announcedits Best of 2018 selections – its annual, editorial list of what it considers the best content across its App Store and iTunes, along with its top charts of the most downloaded apps and games fo the year. As in other years, Apple selected a “best” app and game for each platform, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and Mac. It also rounded-up several favorite Apple Watch apps, but didn’t award a winner.
