· The New York Times tweaker ‘Interactive’-teamet
Fra Poynter:
But Interactive News, now the responsibility of three sub-groups, hasn’t gone anywhere. And it’s changing — the newspaper just posted a new position that will help The Times improve newsgathering through technology (“Sometimes you will craft bots. Other times you will construct open-source libraries. Often, you will deploy web-based admins for reporters to enter and clean data.”)
→ 10 years in, The New York Times is tweaking its Interactive News team to empower reporters
· Facebooks kamp for at få udgiverne tilbage
Fra The Information:
Facebook is making various changes to Instant Articles, including improved data sharing and analytics and better tools for publishers to sign readers up for text alerts. But many publishers have already moved on to rival offerings from Apple and Google.

For 4,99 dollars om måneden får man adgang til udvalgte artikler fra forskellige udgivelser, blandt andet The Economist, The Washington Post, The Guardian – og nu The New York Times og Financial Times.

· Kan denne app sprænge filter-bobler?
In their effort to help fix the filter bubble problem, developers of news app Read Across the Aisle took inspiration from an unlikely source: exercise trackers.
Designed to help people diversify their news consumption habits, Read Across the Aisle tracks how often users read stories from roughly 20 news sources across the ideological spectrum, with The Huffington Post at the far left of the spectrum, Fox News at the far right, and others like The New Yorker, NPR, and The Christian Science Monitor in between.
· Spotify runder 50 millioner
Hører du musik på Spotify? Så er du ikke alene. Spotify says it reaches 50 mln paid subscribers, skriver Reuters.
Google’s featured snippets are worse than fake news [The Outline]
Facebook is working on a feature that would spotlight original shows and other exclusive long-form content on its mobile and TV apps.
The feature, described as a “spotlight module” during its meetings with potential content partners, would be prominently placed inside the video tab on Facebook’s mobile app, sources said. It would feature about half a dozen or so video series for a period of 24 hours, only to refresh the section with another crop of videos the following day.

· Facebook tester ‘Synes ikke godt om’
Fra TechCrunch:
Facebook finally has a Dislike button, but it’s not where you’d expect.
How do you reply to a specific message in a rapid-fire chat thread? Facebook wants you to attach emojis to your friends’ messages the same way you do with News Feed posts.
→ Facebook tests reactions and Dislike button (!) on messages
…og Fake News-markering
On Friday, Facebook debuted its new flagging system for fake news in America, tagging hoax stories as “disputed” for some users. First announced amid criticism of the company for its role in spreading misinformation during the 2016 election, the new feature uses non-partisan third parties to assess the factual accuracy of stories reported as fake by users.

A botched command inadvertently took down swaths of the Web, but it only serves to reveal that centralized Web services need to be built more robustly.

Same-same, just different.
Why are readers and publishers alike embracing paid subscriptions for content services over ad-based business models? There are several reasons, but the dismal state of online advertising is a big one.
[…]
It says a lot about advertising that many publishers are pitching its complete absence as a way of incentivizing paid subscriptions. Even Google is doing it — take a look at YouTube Red. Ads have all sorts of other insidious effects, like turning content providers into clickbait factories. Ex-Politico president Jim VandeHei calls it the “crap trap.”

Whenever I work at the office and grind (on writing) for 1–3 hours, my mind turns to mush. The next thing I know, I’m littering a good piece with common clichés, dull examples, and a flat, robotic voice. […]
But if I take a 10-minute breather to walk outside, make myself a peanut butter sandwich, or just listen to my friend talk about his/her day, my creativity gets refilled to the max — at 100%.
Working remotely works the same way, but better.

· Forbes laver Progressive Web App
Fra Nieman Lab:
With its intersitial quotes and lengthy load times, Forbes is “known for having a slower site than average and a more hefty ad experience,” Salah Zalatimo, Forbes’ senior VP of product development told me.
That’s why Forbes on Tuesday is beginning the public roll out of its new mobile site, which it says loads in 0.8 seconds — down from anywhere from 3 to 12 seconds on its current mobile site.

· Lav en ‘trending’-algoritme uden at kode
TechCrunch har skrevet om ‘Algoriz’:
Traders who have an idea for a money-making algorithm have two choices: learn to code themselves, or hire a great engineer. But neither of these two options are realistic, especially for part-time traders who don’t have a large bankroll behind them
